Muramatsu’s debut solo exhibition in Taipei, showcasing 7 piece of artworks
Ryotaro Muramatsu’s solo exhibition Fluffy.
The exhibition runs from January 12th to February 3rd, marking Muramatsu’s debut solo exhibition in Taipei. Concurrently, the “NAKED FLOWERS Flowers Flowers Dance Light Exhibition” is taking place at the National Taiwan Science Education Center in Taipei. (Add: NO.189 Shihshang Road, Shihlin, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C; Date: until 10th March, 2024)
World leaders at the G7 Hiroshima Summit experienced the Dandelion artwork, now showcased in gold and platinum leaf sculptures.
Since founding the creative company NAKED, INC. in 1997, the Tokyo based artist has led projects in various fields such as film, spatial presentation, local revitalization, and traditional Japanese arts. The films he directed have received 48 nominations and awards at film festivals around the world. He began creating works as a solo artist in 2018 and since has exhibited art both within Japan and overseas. In 2020, he launched an international art initiative DANDELION PROJECT that aims to unite peopleʼs prayers for world peace by “planting” interconnected dandelion sculptures in locations around the world. At the G7 Hiroshima Summit in 2023, he created and showcased artworks at special events hosted by the Prime Minister and First Lady of Japan.
The highlight of this exhibition is the Mini Dandelion, a gold/platinum foil artwork crafted in the shape of dandelion fluff. The different seeds are designed based on actual seeds of various flowers, expressing the diversity of a coexisting world. Gold leaf and platinum leaf are meticulously applied by Japanese craftsmen using traditional techniques.
Seven works showcased at the exhibition intricately blend digital and traditional techniques, capturing the beauty of structure concealed within the turbulence and chaos of life.
The exhibition Fluffy, conveying a sense of softness akin to wool or fur, encapsulates the concept of existence in a state of delicate and constant change such as fluff dancing in the wind; jellyfish swaying in the water; waves traversing between land and sea. The seven artworks displayed via a range of technologies, from sculptures, projection mapping to interactive work changing by the audience. The exhibition showcases seven artworks that utilize a variety of technologies, including sculptures, projection mapping, and interactive installations that respond to audience interaction.
