Exhibition of peace artwork created with local children at Hieizan Sakamoto and Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine

NAKED, INC. will hold “NAKED GARDEN ONE KYOTO 2023 Hieizan Sakamoto” from November 3 to December 3, 2023 in the Hieizan Sakamoto area (Sakamoto, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture) where Hieizan Enryakuji Temple is located, which is registered as a World Heritage Site as one of the “Cultural Properties of Ancient Kyoto.

First collaboration with local children! DANDELION,” a participatory artwork of “Flowers of Peace” spreading, makes its first appearance at Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine.

Sakamoto, a town at the foot of Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hieizan, where prayers for peace are offered to the world regardless of religious affiliation. Sakamoto has long flourished as a gate town and has been selected as a national Important Preservation District for Traditional Buildings.

This year, artist Ryotaro Muramatsu’s art project “DANDELION PROJECT” will collaborate with local children to create the world’s only art of peace. Last year, this work was displayed in the National Treasure Nemoto-chudo Hall of Enryaku-ji Temple on Mt. Hiei.

DANDELION PROJECT” is a networked art project in which “DANDELION” dandelion art objects are planted (installed) around the world, and people who experience “DANDELION” deliver their prayers for peace as digital flowers around the world in real time. So far, DANDELION has been exhibited in 44 locations around the world, including Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, and San Francisco. This year, spouses of G7 leaders experienced DANDELION at the “G7 Hiroshima Summit” Partners Program held in May.

This year, local children drew pictures of flowers with their prayers for peace, which were collected and turned into “DANDELION” projection mapping. When experiencing “DANDELION,” the children’s flower artwork will spread to Hiyoshi-taisha Shrine.

Flower paintings will be collected at kindergartens, elementary, junior high and high schools in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, as well as at Keihan Sakamoto Hieiyamaguchi Station and JR Hieizan Sakamoto Station.

This event is not only an exhibition of “DANDELION” at Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine, but also a tour of the town of Sakamoto on Hieizan, which is famous for its autumn foliage.

The approach to Hiyoshi, the grounds of Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine, and the garden of the famous Chikurin-in Temple will also be lit up with Naked’s digital art. The former Chikurin-in, which has been very popular on SNS in recent years, will be open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only for 250 people per day (*Purchase of a paid ticket for a specific date and time is required).

The view from the main interior of the building, which is also famous for its mirrored desk, is an atmospheric garden steeped in history that is not to be missed.
