DANDELION PROJECT to Be Exhibited in KYOTO at Yasaka Shrine and Fushimi Inari Taisha
As part of the co-creative art project NAKED GARDEN ONE KYOTO 2025, jointly organized by Kyoto City, Uji City, Otsu City, and NAKED, INC., Ryotaro Muramatsu’s DANDELION PROJECT will be featured at two of Kyoto’s most iconic shrines—Fushimi Inari Taisha and Yasaka Shrine—in the summer of 2025.
The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. With the next generation in mind, this exhibition delivers a heartfelt message of peace from Kyoto to the world, through the power of art and shared prayer.
Fushimi Inari Taisha: A Prayer for Peace During the Sacred Summer Festivals
Exhibition period: July 19 (Sat) – August 17 (Sun), 2025
At Fushimi Inari Taisha, the exhibition will coincide with the traditional festivals Yoimiya-sai and Motomiya-sai, which express gratitude for divine blessings.
For the first time as part of NAKED GARDEN ONE KYOTO, the shrine will host an art display featuring the DANDELION installation, alongside artworks created by local elementary school students from Inari Elementary School. The children’s drawings, inspired by their hopes for future peace, will be offered and displayed within the sacred grounds.
In this timeless space of prayer, the heartfelt wishes of today’s youth will overlap with centuries of tradition, casting a light of peace that transcends generations.
Yasaka Shrine: Messages of Peace Blooming in the Gion Forest
Exhibition period: August 8 (Fri) – August 17 (Sun), 2025
As a central place of Gion faith, Yasaka Shrine has long been a symbol of protection against epidemics and a guardian of health and harmony in Kyoto.
In this special exhibition, messages of peace created by the Boy Scouts of Kyoto and Girl Scouts of Kyoto will be displayed together with the luminous DANDELION art installation. Their messages will resonate with the glowing dandelions nestled within the sacred grove, creating a moving expression of peace for the future.
About the DANDELION PROJECT
Launched in 2020 by Ryotaro Muramatsu, the DANDELION PROJECT is a global participatory art initiative that connects people around the world through shared prayers for peace.
Visitors interact with a dandelion-shaped digital art sculpture by touching its soft “seeds,” which then carry their wishes in real time to other DANDELION installations across the globe.
To date, the project has been installed in over 51 cities including Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay, Tokyo Tower, MIYASHITA PARK, Paris, Shanghai, and San Francisco, engaging over one million people worldwide in this growing network of peace and connection.
